Let Yourself Feel Joy
Why don’t we allow ourselves to REALLY feel joy in our body?
Strange question? Impossible answer? I no longer think so. If your answer isn’t something like “I feel a lot of joy in my body” than I think you’re missing out. I know I was.
Dis-connection to our body is the epidemic inside the pandemic of the last 2 years. These last years have been challenging for most and an opportunity for growth and learning for many including myself.
But what I’ve noticed, is that the vast majority of people are disconnected from listening to their body.
No, I mean really listening. AND giving your body what she needs.
Have you ever,
Not used the toilet, telling yourself I can do this one more thing first?
Not go to sleep when you want, because this Netflix show is sooo good?
Worn clothes that are too big or unflattering, dark in color, because you think your body is “too this” or “not enough of that”?
Not eaten breakfast or lunch, so that you can get to work, think you’re running late or send one more email, text, etc?
Get really honest with yourself. I can wait………
I know I’ve done all of these things before. I suspect you have too.
Years ago, I became aware of the disconnection to my own body by ignoring, intellectualizing or “shoulding” her, I realized what an unconscious and unhealthy pattern this had turned into. Honestly, it left me feeling lousy, close to burn-out and wondering “is this all there is”?
As I’ve untangled this pattern and habit in me, I realized this pattern isn't unique to me. It was modeled (unconscious & unknowingly) by other women around me. It’s common and widespread.
It may be considered normal, but I can assure you, it’s toxic. It’s toxic to your body and it’s a toxic pattern women are unknowingly passing to other women and girls.
I believe it needs to stop and the first step in changing any pattern or habit is awareness.
And just like any unwanted pattern you have, it can be alchemized into a pattern that serves your highest and truest self.
Becoming aware of your current patterns & habits allows for change.
So get quiet, ask yourself these questions and write out your thoughts. You may be surprised what you can learn, when you listen to your inner wisdom…… which, by the way, comes from your body! *smile*
What patterns or habits do I have right now that no longer serve me.?
How do I distract myself when I feel anxious or overwhelmed?
How do I want to feel every day?
What is one thing I could start doing that would bring me closer to that feeling?
