Improve Your Intuition With Better Gut Health
A healthier digestive system (aka: gut microbiome) will enhance your intuition and self love.
A true statement? I bold statement? I believe - Yes. and Yes.
I’m one of the 74% of Americans that have digestive health issues. And 35 million Americans, like me, have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). Irritable bowel syndrome is the umbrella term doctors give a whole host of digestive issue that don’t fall into the category of an auto-immune disease. Since childhood, I’ve had frequent bouts of nausea, constipation and diarrhea. And times of low energy and low level anxiety.
I was told “that’s just the way it is, you were born this way.” I know my family was trying to communicate that from a place of love but my little girl brain didn’t hear it that way. So, it’s been an interesting journey over the years trying to figure out, mostly on my own, how to feel better, healthier, energetic and calm. I laugh to myself now, but I didn’t realize for MANY years that it’s not considered normal not to poop every day.
Now, looking back I can see so clearly how my digestive health has been a thread throughout my life. It has brought challenges, and my ability to overcome those challenges. It has asked me to love myself and listen to my intuition. I believe, all of it was to bring me to my life’s purpose: to share, educate and coach you through similar challenges so you can live vibrantly, with enthusiasm and age gracefully. And hear your own intuition.
“All disease begins in the gut”
Modern research has caught up with Hippocrates who stated this in 400 BC. Our modern society is struggling with growing obesity, diabetes, stress and loneliness epidemics. And, as David Perlmutter, MD explains in detail in his book, Brain Wash, we have a societal challenge of disconnection syndrome.
It’s. All. Connected.
We know,
-
The root of most disease is inflammation.
-
Inflammation most often begins in the gut.
-
Gut and brain are inextricably linked. The gut is called the 2nd brain.
-
Stress levels, sleep, and the foods you eat will either positively or negatively effect your whole person.
-
What you think, feel, do and eat every day will lead you closer to or further away from dis-ease.
It’s a tightly woven, beautiful and intricate cycle within ourselves. Yet, too often, we view ourselves and others as separate parts. We are individual parts that are integrated and designed like a harmonious orchestra to work together.
The energy center of your inner knowing sits as the Third Chakra. This energy center is located about 2 inches above your naval, called the Solar Plexus. You may know the feeling in “the pit of my stomach”. Or, “trusting your gut.” That’s the 3rd Chakra.
not surprisingly, when our 3rd Chakra is out of balance, we have digestive issues.
The Solar Plexus is our power within. Our inner fire-light. Not an aggressive form of power we often see played out in the media today. It’s a self reliance, an inner knowing of our self-determination power. Our inner voice. Our intuition.
When we feel powerless, this energy center is off balance, and we can often seek to gain the balance back by looking outside ourselves. This can have the opposite effect of what we’re going for and we feel further disconnected from ourselves.
When a part of this cycle gets a kink, the whole cycle goes out of balance.
We each have the inner knowing to make choices to foster our unique good health. When we have positive healthy choices and self care activities every day, we find our inner voice / inner power again. And the inner cycle works harmoniously.
Fostering a healthy 3rd Chakra energy leads to energetic vibrancy, enthusiasm and enjoyment of life around us. We have a more positive outlook. We feel and act healthy.
Keeping this gut/intuition cycle working well, builds an inner trust muscle. And when life gets uncertain, as it sometimes will, it’s in the uncertainty that we can see possibilities because we are secure in our inner knowing.
Otherwise, we become governed by everything outside ourselves without regard to that inner intuitive, soft voice. We overly rely on external voices instead. This removes our personal responsibility, personal power and we feel like a victim. We forget to question. We blindly accept what we’re told. This can lead to shame. Ultimately this drains our vibrancy, energy and vitality instead of adding to it.
Build you inner vibrancy by stimulating your digestive fire - literally and energetically.
How do we do that?
Foods - eat whole fresh foods. Local and/or organic whenever possible. Eat colorful, nutrient dense foods like vegetables, grass-fed meats, wild-caught fish, healthy fats, whole fruits, beans and legumes, nuts and seeds.
Stay clear as much as possible of sugar, artificial sweeteners and processed, industrialized foods. These types of foods made in a factory are inert. You are not!! You are wonderfully bio-dynamic.
Exercise - move your body! Find an activity that you love to do everyday. Something that leaves you feeling energized not depleted. Get out into nature when you can. Start small if you have to. Starting is the key.
Meditation or mindful breathing - build this into every day, even if it’s just 5 minutes per day. Mindful breathing “combs” our energy and meditation helps you find your soft inner voice.
Sleep - aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Make sleep a priority. The motto “sleep is for the weak” is outdating thinking. Sleep allows your body and brain to restore itself.
Reduce toxins - toxins are everywhere from water to air to beauty care produce. Reduce your toxic load by eating clean foods as mentioned, hydrate your body with water, sweat it out with exercise, and use clean beauty products free of harsh chemicals.
These activities, when made a priority and incorporated into your every day lifestyle, will support and promote the “good” gut bacteria leading you closer to a healthier digestive system which helps you hear your intuitive voice.
Find nourishment that is uniquely you and unique to what you need in your life.
Nourishment is found on and off your plate!
Figure out what you love in life, what’s meaningful to you, eat with health and vibrancy in mind. Eat real food. Monitor how you feel and what you truly need, each day. I believe you’ll flourish in mind, body and soul. Feel vibrant, energetic, enthusiastic and age gracefully!
