Self-Care. Selfish or personal heath-care?

Maybe like me, you believed:

  • It’s better to give than receive

  • Don’t be selfish

  • Work harder

  • Don’t be so focused on yourself

  • You don’t really need x, y or z

While all of these are true, what’s missing is that they are true in a particular context.   They are not true, when they’re at the expense of what you need. They are not true, when you abandon yourself for these instead.

It’s not a binary choice as I was led to believe once. It’s not my needs OR your needs.   It’s me and you..us both.

When we consider self care as a binary choice.  I give either to you or to me, then we both loose. This thought pattern leads us to abandon ourselves.  Although my view point is female, I believe this is true no matter what gender you identify with.

This mindset breeds the ingrained beliefs that we are less deserving than someone else. Therefore, we over-give, over-commit, over-think, over-do, and ultimately end up over-whelmed and resentful.  We’ve lost the ability to listen to and trust ourselves.

Constant doing has been glorified… we’re constantly on the go, impatient, sleeping less, eating faster, rushing around, and our quiet mind has been silenced by the constant noise.   It’s a noisy, busy world!

This perpetuates a cycle of un-aligned choices. Decisions someone else wants us to make. Decisions that are not true to who we are deeply in our core being. Decisions that are unhealthy for us - may that be unhealthy food, unhealthy job, unhealthy relationships.

We fear what will happen if we stop.   Who will we listen to? What will we hear in the quiet?

But your inner self, your inner vibrancy knows you are here on this planet for more. Your inner self is demur, thoughtful and quiet.  You may feel a longing, a dream, a pit in your stomach, feeling something’s not right but you can’t pinpoint it.

BUT… if you don’t listen to the quiet voice she may earthquake you to a new reality. Why? Because your intuition and inner self love you.  It’s time to wake up!     Your intuition knows that:

Your life needs a high quality you!

The good news is once you start to listen to this voice, feel where the voice is located in your body. Learn to feel in addition to think. Your intuition won’t steer your wrong.

When you start to listen to and trust your inner wisdom, you are changing your brain chemistry. There’s a shift in your hormonal balance causing a positive ripple effect throughout your body.

I believe self-care is highly personalized, heart-centered health-care. And it can look different for everyone because we are all unique individuals.

Here’s some clues of what it may look like for you.

Heart-Centered self care is:

  • Balanced exercise

  • Listening to how you feel in your body

  • Conversations that uplift you

  • Eating real, whole foods

  • Getting enough rest

  • Sleeping well

  • Becoming un-busy

  • A job you love

  • Leaving a party, dinner, event early because you’d rather get enough sleep or have some time to yourself

  • Setting boundaries with loved ones

  • Asking for help

  • An uncluttered, clean home

  • Eliminating “should do’s”

  • Spiritual development

  • massages, facials, or other ‘self treats’

  • Vacations

  • Leaving relationships that are no longer aligned to who you are a deep level

  • Finding a coach to support your goals and personal development

  • Check up with your doctor

It can be f’ing scary!   Heart-Centered self care as health-care requires courage and loving your whole self. Decreasing self judgement and minding your negative thoughts that will pop up.

Traditional health-care is expensive. Preventive medical care is necessary. Heart-centered self care is mandatory if you want to live vibrantly and feel energized.  You can only heal a body you’re listening to.

We all may be getting older.  I want your radiance to shine and for you to feel age-less. Heart-Centered self care is part of the puzzle of age-less living.

I take your health care as seriously as I take my own. If you’re ready to cultivate good health from the inside out, then I invite you to chat about how my one-on-one coaching could support you.
